Foxx Votes Against NC Jobless Workers

The House voted yesterday to extend jobless benefits to laid-off workers in 27 states where unemployment is 8.5% or higher. North Carolina is one of those states. The unemployment benefits bill passed on a vote of 331-83, a whopping majority including every single member of the North Carolina delegation, both Democrats and Republicans ... save one (and, yes, Virginia, you're a shining example of a horse's ass) ... Virginia "Loose Cannon" Foxx.

The few Republicans, including Foxx, who voted against helping workers took the line of blaming Obama for these economic times rather than their own lately unlamented former administration.

Those Republicans, including Madam Foxx, are into increasing the economic pain on ordinary citizens in order to make our current president look bad in the long run.

Classy move.

Unemployment in Watauga

The Employment Security Commission of North Carolina released new out-of-work figures for every county in the state today, and Watauga's unemployment went up from 5.1 (Nov. 2008) to 5.7 percent in December ... a much smaller increase than in several other counties. North Carolina counties with unemployment rates over 10 percent exactly doubled, from 17 counties in November to 34 counties in December.

Worst city for jobs: Rocky Mount, with 11.7 percent unemployment.

Best city for jobs: Durham, with 6.1 percent unemployment.

Did Our Reality Check Bounce?

It appears that the rest of the nation is finally catching up with North Carolina ... in joblessness, that is. Headline this a.m.: "Jobless rate rises to 4-year high of 5.7 percent."

'Course, North Carolina has already broken 6 percent, putting us 13th from the top in joblessness (or is it the bottom?).

Things are even worse around these parts, especially in Winston-Salem and the Triad, where the unemployment rate hit 6.4 percent in June, the worst showing in five years, or in other words, equally bad to another bad year in the George W. Bush presidency.

Now, tell us again why we should vote Republican this year? Because John McSame has promised to continue, extend, and perfect that policies we're now living under?
